Alyssa earned her B.S. in bioengineering from the University of Maryland. During her undergraduate studies, she worked in Dr. Xiaoming He’s biomaterials laboratory where she assisted a PhD student in her research to create nanoparticles to be used for cell cryopreservation. After graduating from UMD, she worked in the analytics department at RoosterBio in Frederick, Maryland where she contributed heavily to the development of several assays, particularly those meant to examine RNA derived from extracellular vesicles. Her time at RoosterBio was invaluable and solidified her desire to pursue a PhD.
During her PhD, Alyssa is excited to apply the knowledge and skills she gained at RoosterBio to research regarding mitochondria. Her dream is to one day use extracellular vesicles to deliver various cargo of interest, including mitochondrial DNA.
Outside of research, Alyssa enjoys cooking, reading, and spending time with her friends and two fur babies.
